Written in 2017 to be premiered at the IRCAM ManiFeste by Quatuor Diotima, Things Are Made to Fill Voids grew out of an amorous journey through which the exterior world conveys an interior landscape. Layers are constructed slowly and are presented through a form which extinguishes, enfolds onto itself, and finally re-emerges from its own shards.
During the time of this piece’s conception, I found myself in a deep meditation on the strange balance between material and form, resulting in the handling of musical material with great care, yet with complete non-attachment.
